Boxing
Based on the Oxford
Dictionary, boxing is sport in which who people fight each other with their
fists. Boxing players, boxers engage in a contest of strength, speed, reflexes,
endurance, and will, by throwing punches with gloved hands against each other. Although
this sport is very popular, but this sport can make a boxer gets brain injuries,
even death. That is why boxing should be ban.
Some people argued that
boxing is an exciting sport, but boxing has always been known as a brutal sport.
The blow caused by a boxer can make a person injured, ranging
from cuts and bruises to broken bones. It is not uncommon to see a boxer leave the
ring with a cut on his face, an eye swollen shut, and a nose enlarged and
bloody. Often, healing in is incomplete
because these areas receive the same blows again and again in other matches. In fact, repeated blows almost make a boxer
lose his sight.
It may be true that
boxing can help people to built a stronger heart, however what was the point
when people can suffer short-term neurological damage if he gets staggering
blows to his head. A knockout punch, for example, is often delivered with such
force that the brain smashes against the skull, tearing nerve fibers and blood
vessels, resulting in a concussion. Even
a blow to the neck can close the carotid artery, the main artery to the brain,
whereby oxygen and blood to the brain are disrupted, resulting in dizziness and
confusion. Later, the boxers often have no memory of the moments before or
after a knockout blow.
Boxing is a very
popular sport, enjoyed by millions across the world but it is also a danger
sport. A team of researchers at the Central and Eastern Clinical School in
Melbourne, Australia, cited the lack of injury rates as the reason for their
2006 review of boxing injuries. The team's study, published in the August 2006
edition of the British Journal of Sports Medicine, found that of the 47 boxers
studied, 21 injuries were logged at a rate of two injuries per 1,000 hours of
boxing. Seventy-one percent of the injuries were related to the head, with
concussions counting for one-third of that tally.
Therefore, although
boxing has been watch since the ancient Greek, it is a very dangerous game that
should be ban.
